How I Work: Consultant Gynaecology & Functional Medicine

I assess biochemical and micronutrient status, thyroid dynamics, inflammatory markers, and hormone patterns — together, not in isolation.

My Clinical Philosophy

Modern medicine excels at detecting disease but often falls short when symptoms persist despite "normal" test results. Most women I see don't have rare conditions—they have patterns that haven't been properly connected. My role is to interpret these patterns clearly and guide you toward solutions that address underlying causes, not just symptoms.

Beyond "Normal" Lab Results

Standard laboratory ranges detect disease at a population level but don't define what's optimal for you as an individual. This is why you might experience:
  • Persistent fatigue or energy crashes
  • Irregular or problematic cycles
  • Ongoing pelvic pain
  • Inflammatory symptoms
  • Metabolic or mood disruptions
Even when your results appear "normal," these symptoms are telling us something important about how your body is functioning.

My Assessment Approach

I work at the pattern level, examining how different systems in your body interact. Depending on your case, this might include evaluating:
  • Cycle quality and ovulation patterns
  • Biochemical and micronutrient status
  • Complete thyroid function (beyond basic screening)
  • Stress response and cortisol dynamics
  • Gut-hormone connections
  • Inflammatory and metabolic markers
Testing is always targeted, staged, and clinically justified—never just to "check everything." I assess biochemical and micronutrient status, thyroid dynamics, inflammatory markers, and hormone patterns — together, not in isolation.

What Functional Medicine Really Means

Functional medicine isn't alternative medicine. It's an evidence-based framework that asks better questions about why symptoms occur and persist. In practice, this means:
  • Addressing root causes, not just managing symptoms
  • Understanding why conditions recur or plateau
  • Integrating lifestyle, nutrition, and medical treatment
  • Using proven interventions, not trending supplements
When medication or surgery is the right answer, I'll recommend it. When lifestyle and nutritional interventions are more appropriate, we'll focus there.

Clear Boundaries for Better Care

To maintain clinical safety and provide you with the best possible care, consultations are structured and focused. I don't provide ongoing advice by email, quick questions outside appointments, or result interpretation without proper review appointments.
Follow-up care is always scheduled, time-defined, and appropriately structured to ensure you receive the attention and analysis your health deserves.

Is This Approach Right for You?

This model works best for women who:
  • Want to understand their bodies, not just suppress symptoms
  • Are ready to engage actively in their health journey
  • Value precision and evidence-based care
  • Understand that complex issues require structured, thoughtful work
This approach isn't suitable if you're looking for quick fixes or unlimited access outside of appointments.

Working Together

My role isn't to replace conventional medicine—it's to use it more effectively and extend it where it falls short. If you're ready to move beyond symptom management to truly understand and optimize your health, this approach may be exactly what you've been looking for.
